A newcomedyseries is never a bad thing to be in search of. Everybody needs a laugh sometimes, and it makes sense to always have a backstock of shows that one can turn to if they’re in need. Most people say they have a “list” they’re adding recommendations from friends to, but many people don’t actually keep that list.
But for anApple TV+user, there’s a list that should be kept for comedy series. Filled with originals,Apple TV+’s offeringsare robust, and there are plenty of shows that should be considered. From newer shows to ones that have already completed their run, Apple TV+ has comedies for all levels of fans.

10’Trying' (2020 - Present)
Conception can be a tricky subject to make funny, butTryingdoes a fantastic job of it. The British comedy series stars Rafe Spall and Esther Smith as Jason and Nikki, a couple trying to have a baby and running into plenty of issues. Unable to conceive, they decide to adopt, and the show focuses on the trials and tribulations that come with the adoption process and what it’s like for new parents to take new children into their home.
The situational comedy and wry sense of humor come through, thanks to creator Andy Wolton’s storylines.The series is fueledby Smith and Spall, who are enigmatic in their roles and carry the series with deft abilities to portray 30-somethings struggling to be adults and then, all of a sudden, having to be parents. The series was renewed for a fifth season after its successful fourth season.
9’Schmigadoon!' (2021 - 2023)
A musical comedy starring two recognizably funny faces should have been a no-brainer, right? Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key ledSchmigadoon!for Apple TV+ as a couple from New York who get trapped in musical theater settings with magical undertones and can’t escape. They’re on a hiking trip and stumble upon the village of Schmigadoon, a place that is stuck in the Golden Age of musicals, similar toBrigadoon. Thesecond season sees themin Schmicago, a place set in the 1970s era of musicals, similar toChicago.
The series features original songs from Cinco Paul and a cast of incredibly talented Broadway veterans like Ariana DeBose, Aaron Tveit, Kristin Chenoweth, Martin Short, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, and Tituss Burgess. The series also features Dove Cameron, Jane Krakowski, and Fred Armisen.Schmigadoon!highlights incredibly funny and talented people in fantasy settings and is worth a watch for any theater fan.
8’Loot' (2022 - Present)
Matt Hubbard and Alan Yang were writers together onParks and Recreationbefore joining forces to createForeverfor Prime Video, which starred Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph. They collaborated again to createLootfor Apple TV+ in 2022, starringRudolph as a tech billionaire’s wifewho, after a divorce, becomes the third-richest woman in the world. She decides to take over the operations of the charity she founded, which throws off the people who have been working at the charity from the beginning.
The series also stars Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Ron Funches, Joel Kim Booster, Nat Faxon, Meagen Fey, and Stephanie Styles. Adam Scott guest stars as Rudolph’s ex-husband. Rudolph sinks her teeth into the role and provides hilarious commentary on the billionaire culture. The third season of the series debuts in October.
7’Platonic' (2023 - Present)
Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen have great chemistry,leading back to theNeighborspairof films they starred as a married couple in. Byrne has been a friend to Apple TV+, having starred inPhysicalprior to starring inPlatonic. Rogen, following his first season ofPlatonic, created another hit with Apple TV+ (also featured on this list). The second season ofPlatonicwas just released and stars Byrne and Rogen as former best friends who rekindle their friendship after Rogen’s divorce.
Byrne plays a married mother of three who is searching for something new in her life, and it comes in the form of an old friend. Byrne and Rogen play off each other well, despite their platonic friendship in the series. Luke Macfarlane plays Byrne’s husband, and Carla Gallo plays her best friend. The series was created by Francesca Delbanco and Nicolas Stoller.
6’Acapulco' (2021 - 2025)
People may have first come to know Eugenio Derbez from his role inCODA, but the Mexican comedian has been in the industry for many years, with roles in productions likeAnabel,XHDRbZ,Vecinos, andHow to Be a Latin Lover, which was the genesis forAcapulco. The series features Derbez as Maximo Gallardo Ramos, a mogul who came from nothing and is kind of the narrator of the series. It follows the younger versions of his character, played by Enrique Arrizon and Erick Saldaña, as he grows up and wants to work at Las Colinas Resort in Acapulco.
The youthful versions of Ramos work their way up at a resort as a pool boy, making friends with other staff members and idolizing the Head of Operations, played by Damian Alcazar. It is a sweet and nostalgic look at a simpler time and what it means to try and build oneself up to being better. The show has been lauded for itsrepresentation of the Latino community.
5’Mythic Quest' (2020 - 2025)
Created by Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, and Megan Ganz, all ofIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiafame,Mythic Questfollows a fictional video game studio and the employees that work there. Mythic Quest is the popular video game that the company has created with McElhenney playing the creative director and game’s creator Ian. At the beginning of the series, the company is going to release an expansion pack, and lead engineer Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao), executive producer David Brittlesbee (David Hornsby), and head of monetization Brad Bakshi (Danny Pudi) all have different visions for the game.
The series had a unique run, producing quarantine-style episodes during the COVID-19 pandemic and coming back with three more seasons after that. The show had famous recurring and guest stars like Jake Johnson, Cristin Milioti, Snoop Dogg, Anthony Hopkins, William Hurt, Joe Manganiello, and Day. F. Murray Abraham starred in the first two seasons as the game’s head writerbefore being dismissed from the showafter accusations of inappropriate behavior.
4’The Afterparty' (2022 - 2023)
Described as a “millennial whodunnit,” the two seasons ofThe Afterpartyfeature people being interviewed about being near the murder of a wealthy person.The first seasontakes place after a high school reunion, where those in attendance are questioned about a murder that takes place at the party. The second season takes place the day after a wedding. Tiffany Haddish stars in both seasons as a detective assigned to both cases.
The first season features Ben Schwartz, Sam Richardson, Zoe Chao, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer, Dave Franco, and Jamie Demetrious. The second season features Zach Woods, Paul Walter Hauser, John Cho, Ken Jeong, Chao, Anna Konkle, Poppy Liu, Jack Whitehall, Elizabeth Perkins, and Vivian Wu. Each episode shows the night of the crime from a different person’s perspective. Both seasons received high critical ratings.
3’Shrinking' (2023 - Present)
Jason Segel playing a widowed therapist with a teenage daughter might not seem like the funniest of roles. ButShrinking, which he created alongside Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, is just that. Segel is a man just trying to do right by his patients and pull himself out of the mess of a personal life he has. He looks up to his mentor and colleague, played by Harrison Ford, with admiration and idolization. Ford is the perfect foil to the eager Segel, grumpy and not buying into his overly loving demeanor.
The real comedy in the series comes from costars Christa Miller, Ted McGinley, and Jessica Williams. Miller and McGinley play Segel’s neighbors, and Williams is Ford’s and Segel’s coworker. The ensemble cast also features Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, and Lukita Maxwell. It has aired for two seasons, with a third on the way, withMichael J. Fox guest-starring.
2’Ted Lasso' (2020 - Present)
Arguably the best-known series from Apple TV+,Ted Lassowas created by Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, and Bill Lawrence. It stars Sudeikis as the eponymous character who is hired by an English Premier League club to be their manager despite being a college football coach in America. What starts as a sham to help the team lose turns into a heartwarming and hilarious fish-out-of-water adventure across the pond.
The series watches Ted as he not only learns the game of soccer but teaches his kindhearted ways to a group of people unlike him. The series charmed its way to multiple Emmy Award wins and features Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Toheeb Jimoh, Phil Dunster, Jeremy Swift, and Nick Mohammed. Pretty much everyone who watches the series becomes a fan of AFC Richmond. Despite finishing up tidily a few years ago, the show isreopening its story for Season 4soon.
1’The Studio' (2025)
A TV series about Hollywood has been done plenty of times before. But never likeThe Studio. Starring Seth Rogen as the head of a studio, the show provides a hysterical look at what it’s like to be in the industry. Rogen is constantly trying to find his way around Hollywood and put his studio in the best place to stay near the top. But he’s constantly failing, in the lovable way only Rogen can.
Costarring Chase Sui Wonders, Ike Barinholtz, Catherine O’Hara, and Kathryn Hahn, the show has put the spotlight on actors and directorsplaying themselves in cameos, further driving the hilarity of the situations. Martin Scorsese, Sarah Polley, Adam Scott, Zoë Kravitz, and Ron Howard earned Emmy nominations for their guest roles. Bryan Cranston might have the most ridiculous role of all in the series as Rogen’s boss. The series has been renewed for a second season.
