Michael Keatonhas further teased his Batman return (one of them at least), with the actor sharing an image of himself toInstagramin the batsuit on the set of the upcoming DC movie,Batgirl. Rather than a simple picture of Keaton standing there in the cape and cowl, however, the image instead shows a sight that the criminals of Gotham hope never to see, the silhouette of Batman looming over them.
Keaton shared the image without an adjoining caption. Because honestly, the image itself says it all. Michael Keaton will return to the role ofBatmanafter a hiatus of 30 years, once again donning the iconic costume for the HBO Max movie,Batgirl. Starring Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon AKA Batgirl, details of the project remain largely a mystery at present, but the plot is expected to explore the origin of Barabara’s emergence as Batgirl with the daughter of police commissioner James Gordon becoming a costumed vigilante akin to Batman.
Batgirlwill also see J. K. Simmons reprise the role of James Gordon, the commissioner of Gotham City Police Department, Barbara’s father, and a close ally of Batman, and sees Brendan Fraser join the world of DC as Firefly, a sociopathic pyromaniac and the movie’s primary villain. WithBatgirlset to include Michael Keaton’s version of Bruce Wayne/Batman, we can also assume that the HBO Max project will be set in the same alternate universe that will be introduced in the upcoming big-screen DC endeavor,The Flash.
Batgirlis scheduled to be released onHBO Maxin 2022.

Michael Keaton’s Batman Will Also Appear in The Flash
Batgirlis not the only time fans will get to once again bask in the brilliance of Michael Keaton’s Batman, withThe Flashmovie due to re-introduce this variant of the character back into the fray. Taking inspiration from the DC comic book arcFlashpoint,The Flashwill see Barry Allen travel back in time to prevent his mother’s murder, which brings unintended consequences to his timeline.
Though Michael Keatonhas admitted that he does not fully understand the idea of the cinematic multiverse, he has since heaped praise on the vision ofThe Flashdirector Andy Muschietti, and cannot wait for audiences to see his Batman on the big screen again.
“When it came around again first of all I was getting curious about it. I thought, ‘Boy, what would that be like?’ And then, coincidentally, there were murmurs, and I got a call from Warner Bros. They wanted to talk to me about something and there was hints of Batman. It has to be good. There’s no reason to do it if it’s not good. It’s not gonna really change anything,” Keaton said. “And I just jumped in and had fun. And why would you not? You know, I mean, director Andy Muschietti is fantastic, and he’s really creative. I don’t know. It’s fun.”
The Flashis scheduled to be released in the United States on July 26, 2025, following a series of delays caused by backstage drama and global circumstances.
