Bungie the developers behind Halo andDestinyfranchise has announced today that they have a new partnership with Chinese online gaming company NetEase. They also received an investment of over $100 million.
Bungie Partners with Chinese Game Company
In anews poston their official website,Bungieexplain what this new partnership will hold for Bungie’s future. They explain that the investment will help to “accelerate Bungie’s vision of becoming a global, multi-franchise entertainment company.”
They also assure that they will continue their partnership with publisher Activision which they currently hold for their franchise Destiny:
If you’re a player of Destiny, this news won’t impact the hobby you’ve come to know. Destiny is an experience that will grow for many years to come. We’ll continue to work with our partners at Activision to foster this global community and turn new players from all over the world into Guardians. Our commitment to that world is not diminished by this announcement. We have exciting plans for the future of the Destiny franchise, and you’ll learn more about the next steps we’ll take together in the weeks to come.
It’s not uncommon for foreign developers to team up with Chinese companies when branching into that market. Due to Chinese legislation, game developers need a local company in order to make that leap. NetEase is not foreign to this as they currently hold the regional partnership with Activation Blizzard, which hasWorld of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Starcraft 2 andOverwatchunder it’s belt.
Bungie’s latest titleDestiny 2, was release last year in August and is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.
