A bunch of new screenshots and information has been shared by Bandai Namco on their upcoming anime-souls action-RPG,CODE VEIN.
CODE VEIN- Bloody Tears~
Beginning with the game’s so called “Blood Tears”, these are a kind of fruit that Revenants feast on to quench their blood-thirst, and more importantly, to stop themselves from becoming another “Lost”.
An early Revenant cultivated plants that produced Blood Tears, but unfortunately, most of these have withered. And their increasing scarcity has made them incredibly valuable in their world.
But all is not lost as the game’s protagonist, you, carries a unique ability that can revive these precious plant-life. And by feeding them their own blood, they can once again bear fruit.
And this is where Louis, one ofCODE VEIN’scompanion NPCs come into the picture. Louis slaves away at his Blood Tears research, looking for a way alleviate his fellow revenant’s reliance on the rare fruit. And its limited availability is impeding his progress.
However, that changes as he meets and witnesses the protagonist’s special ability, and forms a party with them in their journey. Also, Louis has plenty of combat experience against the Lost, and wields the Ogre-type Blood Veil and a one-handed blade.
Next up, is another character/companion who has ties with Louis, named Yakumo. A former mercenary whose life was saved thanks to Louis and has since banded together with him. He has with the protagonist early on, but warms up to them soon. His combat specialty is at close-range with his Greatsword, and wields a Hounds-type Blood Veil.
Unlike most revenants, Yakumo also partakes in eating food aside from drinking blood. Though not vital for survival, it is his own way of staying human. Also, Yakumo keeps a photograph with him from his early days.
Blood Code
Then, we’re given more information on thepreviously shared"Blood Codes". Which has players to absorb memories from damaged crystals and allows them to ‘equip’ the abilities of other revenants. These crystals must first be repaired and can be done so through theCODE VEIN’s in-game currecny, Blood.
With Blood Code, it is a way for revenants to share their thoughts/memories with each other. As with this scene shown below. Which displays a glimpse into Louis' past.
