Commander Honglan is one of the tipping points inWuchang: Fallen Feathers. This is where bosses will become significantly harder and force you to play around the skill tree to find what works best for you. With this boss, you will need to be even more patient than prior bosses and strike only when you know an attack will land.
How to Fix Screen Tearing in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
This can be an irritating issue, but thankfully, there are some easy fixes if you have the hardware to support the game.
Preparing to Fight Commander Honglan
While your preferred weapons will be fine, there are a few that will be more ideal than others.
When you first go to enter the fight against Commander Honglan, you will be given a tooltip about Weapon Traits. This tip will tell you about Clash and Deflect for weapons, and these can most notably be utilized by theDual BladesorLongswordweapons. If you prefer the dual blades as your weapons, you can use them to clash with your enemies when you time your attacks correctly. The downside to using a clash over the deflect ability is that you will still receive a portion of the incoming damage, but if you go into the longsword portion of the skill tree, you can gain the Deflect ability.
Longsword’s martial skill to deflect incoming damage will act as a parry, pushing the boss back and creating an opening for your attacks. The deflect skill is an exceptionally strong tool for you to use in the fight withCommander Honglan. It will allow you to be very defensive and aggressive at the same time while taking on this boss in particular, with almost every sword swing that the boss uses being something you can deflect and counterattack. Depending on your playstyle, you may prefer clashing over deflecting, but deflecting does keep you safer while under pressure.

Commander Honglan Phase 1
Phase 1 for this boss will be straightforward and right to the point.
There are a variety of moves that the boss will use against you in the first phase of this fight. Right when the fight starts, she will use a lunging stab to close the distance between the two of you. This is a great move to learn the timing of as it will be used multiple times throughout the fight, especially if you plan to utilize theclashanddeflectionmechanics.
If this attack isn’t deflected, she will perform a follow-upsweepattack covering 180 degrees, starting from her left side and ending on her right. If the initial attack was not deflected, you’ll want to position yourself further back, or behind Commander Honglan.

While it may not be used often or right after being deflected, the boss also has a move where she will dodge backwards and throwkunaiin your direction. These can be deflected or easily dodged depending on your reaction time and preference. The distance from her will determine her next move from here. If you are still further away from her after the kunai have passed by, there is a chance that she will use her lunge attack once again. But if you have dodged to be closer to her, she may perform some of her various close-range melee attacks.
One such close-range combo will be one where Commander Honglan will hold her sword inreverse, with the tip pointing away from you. She will then ball up her left fist and begin a close-quarters melee combo thatcannot be deflected. This will have two back-to-back barehanded hits that can end with a stomp attack, another sword combo, or she backs off entirely.

Both attacks are telegraphed nicely, and she will bring her leg straight up for the powerful stomp, or her sword arm will be completely lifted over her head for a swing. Of these attack outcomes, the stomp cannot be deflected, so you will need to dodge through it while deflecting or clashing with the sword swing.
The last set of phase 1 attacks that she will use against you will be a low sword swing that lunges forward at closer ranges. There is a good chance that she will chain together this attack 1-2 extra times if left uninterupted. With the last being somewhat inconsistent in phase 1, this will be ajumping kick combination. This is another melee combo that can’t be deflected and is more prevalent in phase 2 of the fight, but still finds its way into phase 1, depending on your luck.

This portion of the fight will be filled with moves that you can deflect and counterattack, dealing stance damage and stunning the boss to deal a huge amount of damage. Maintaining a defensive playstyle and becoming aggressive when needed is what Commander Honglan is balanced around, rewarding your patience with stance damage and taking out huge chunks of the boss’s health. However, at around50% health, she will enter phase 2.

Commander Honglan Phase 2
Now that you’ve pushed her into phase 2, Commander Honglan will become even more aggressive.
With the start of phase 2, you’ll be met by the boss performing abackflip, and she will equip a second sword while casting a spell once she lands. If you are too close to her when she starts her flip, you’ll get hit by her animation when she pushes off the ground. While this moment is a great opportunity to output some extra damage into the boss, you will have to be careful of her pushing into the air, which will cause your window to dodge her spell to be smaller. This spell, where she cuts through the air and sends the residual effect to you, will be the main new portion of this phase. With several variants that will be sent your way, it will test your timing and reflexes for the remainder of the fight.
This long-range spell’stwo versionswill have one where it comes at youvertically, and two slices will come at you back to back. The other variant will be a result of Commander Honglan backstepping and performing ahorizontalsweep of both of her swords. When the horizontal sweep is used, the spell will then cover alarge horizontal areain front of her, going straight to you. These are both very dangerous attacks; they both have a large hitbox that extends past their visual indicator and will require some near-perfect timing to dodge through. If you do manage to dodge through them, you should be good to get some damage into the boss before she strings together her next set of attacks.

The final new move for phase 2 is going to be aflurryof attacks from the boss; she will lunge at you from any range, and unleash multiple attacks back to back before jumping into the air, lunging at your location. Deflecting or clashing with this attack is extremely risky, and it is much easier for you to dodge past her to safety and wait for the aerial attack.
When thefinalstring of the attack, when she plunges towards your position, you want to dodge into the attack and position yourself behind her. This will create an immediate opportunity for you to use a charged heavy attack and break her stance. What is arguably one of her most powerful moves is also the one that creates the biggest chance for you to stun her and use a backstab finisher.
Most of her phase 2 moveset will still be a continuation of her phase 1 attacks, most of which will still use her main sword as she did before. You won’t have to worry about the phase 1 attacks being completely different, and you can still resolve them with a clash or deflect to mitigate incoming damage. Maintaining your composure and responding to each attack accordingly will be the key to finishing out this fight and staying on top.
