The ending of Freaky Friday was almost different and would have set up a perfect sequel, but, unfortunately, this idea can no longer work.
It’s now been more than 20 years sinceFreaky Friday’s release, but it’s arguably the perfect time for the sequel. The movie lives on as a key piece of early 2000s popular culture, and it’s been long enough that nostalgia alone will likely be enough to get some audiences to theaters to see the follow-up. What’s more,both Lohan and Curtis have experienced career resurgences of late.
After not working much during the 2010s, Lohan starred inFalling for Christmasin 2022 andIrish Wishin 2024, both of which were big viewership hits for Netflix. Curtis, too, has starred in some exciting projects recently, including the latest trilogy ofHalloweenreboot movies andEverything Everywhere All At Once, the latter of which won Curtis her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
