13Season 1, Episode 9: Baelor

“Baelor” is epsiode that sets the tone for most ofGame of Thrones. Not only does it kick-start most of the storylines throughout the rest of the series, but it also starts the theme of killing the main characters when Ned is beheaded.

12Season 8, Episode 3: The Long Night

For many viewers, “The Long Night” is one of the biggest letdowns even though it is an important battle. Besides the split reactions about theentire last season, this was a highly anticipated episode as it brought an end to the battle between men and the White Walkers.

While the episode was one of the least well done in terms of greats battles inGame of Thrones, it was visually compelling and shocking. It is one of those episodes you may watch over and over again and find something new each time watching it. From the anticipation on who will survive the night to the answers of long questioned plots, “The Long Night” deserves to be listed among the best of the series.

11Season 3, Episode 9: The Rains of Castamere

“The Rains of Castamere,” also known as The Red Wedding, is one of the most shockingGame of Thronesepisodes in that it kills off a number of the supporting cast. For fans that had not read the novels prior to the release of the episode, the infamous betrayal left them speechless as most of the North’s men were slaughtered after seemingly been forgiven for breaking a pact with the Freys. This episode is detrimental to how the rest of the series plays out, sides are taken, revenge is set up, and the North is left up for grabs.

10Season 4, Episode 6: The Laws of Gods and Men

Tyrion Lannister is one of the most clever characters inGame of Thrones. Throughout the entire series, he proves time and time again that his brain can keep him alive. When he finds himself accused of Joffrey’s murder in “The Laws of God sand Men,” he has to once again use his brain to survive. This time, he faces his father and sister who will find him guilty no matter what he says.

Because of this, he has one of his best monologues where he demands a trial by combat instead of taking a spot on the wall. The trial is a turning point for Tyrion who loses his family and his love in the same episode. It gives him the strength to kill his father an episode later and to finally leave King’s landing.

9Season 3, Episode 4: And Now His Watch Is Ended

For most Daenerys fans, “And How His Watch Is Ended” isher shining moment. It’s the turning point of her character who, up until now, only briefly showed her power. At the end of thisGame of Thronesepisode, Dany is shown making a trade for the Unsullied army. She seemingly offers up one of her dragons to make this purchase. Once she hands over the dragon, she commands the Unsullied to kill their previous masters and uttersdracarys, signaling for her dragon to kill the master.

8Season 4, Episode 2: The Lion and The Rose

After three long seasons of the terror that is Joffrey, he finally meets his maker when he is murdered at his own wedding in “The Lion and The Rose.” Besides the satisfaction of watching him die, the fact that it could be any number of people who committed the act helps add to the memorability of the episode. In fact, it’s not until seasons later that you find out who killed him. The timing of the murder, how it was done, and the impending suspense makes the episode a top inGame of Throneshistory.

7Season 2, Episode 9: Blackwater

The Battle of the Blackwater is the first big battle that you see inGame of Thrones. Besides having that title, “Blackwater” is an important step for a lot of characters. It shows just how smart Tyrion is, how Stannis may not be the King he thinks he is, and it introduces wildfire, something Cersei will use later on. The episode also sets the stage for how future battles will be played out in terms of cinematography.

6Season 4, Episode 9: The Watchers on the Wall

Keeping with the theme of battles inGame of Thrones, “The Watchers on the Wall” is another important battle, only this one is with the Wildlings and the Night’s Watch. Just when it seems that Jon Snow has betrayed his role in the Night’s Watch and joined the Wildings, he escapes and rushes back to the Wall. Driven by hurt and betrayal herself, Ygrette and the other Wildlings pursue and eventually attack Castle Black. Part of what makes this episode one that can be rewatched is the fact that Ygrette is killed, which ultimately sets up grounds for Jon Snow’s own murder, an event that is important to the series.

5Season 6, Episode 5: The Door

“The Door” is a fantasticGame of Thronesepisode all around. It is one of the saddest episodes, at least in our opinion, but it is a great episode nonetheless. “The Door” tells the story behind Hodor, behind why he can only say “Hodor,” and how he came to be the friendly giant he is. It also, finally, gives insight into the White Walkers and their origin as well as gives Bran his role as the Three-Eyed Raven.

4Season 7, Episode 4: The Spoils of War

“The Spoils of War” is another greatGame of Thronesepisode for Dany, one that continues to show her strength. In this episode, she basically goes rogue and kills a lot of the Lannisters' army, who are returning from overthrowing the Tyrell’s and taking their money and crops. This episode really gives viewers a foreshadowing of Danys' true character.
