Gamescom 2023 ONL Will Feature Updates and Less About Announcements
One of the major gaming events of the year Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live promises to kick off the conference on August 22nd. However, host and producer Geoff Keighley has shared that it will mostly focus on updates on some of the “biggest games due out over the next year”. According to a recent statement made to VGC, he expressed that it’s “less about announcing brand new projects” and will primarily give “updates” on games already announced.
What Will We See at Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live?
So what can we expect to see at Gamescom 2023 ONL? Keighley lists the horror sequelAlan Wake 2which will be coming out in October as well as the major soulslike Chinese fantasy titleBlack Myth Wukong. Alan Wake 2 is the highly anticipated continuation of the mysterious place called Bright Falls. Following the events of the last title players will get to play as Alan Wake and a new character Saga Anderson. Set to invite not only returning players but also newer players in to the enigmatic detective horror.
It’s going to be an exciting show with new looks at many announced upcoming games like Alan Wake 2, and Black Myth Wukong. This year’s ONL is less about announcing brand new projects, and more about giving fans updates on some of the biggest games due out over the next year.

Black Myth Wukong on the other hand provides a feast for the eyes in this fantasy retelling of Sun Wukong. The Monkey King will be fighting a number of fantasy-inspired foes from Journey to the West. Armed with the Five Elements and his transformations. We’re eager to see more of what this game has to offer, as we await its release which is set forSummer 2024. Last year Gamescom Opening Night Live spotlighted 35 games over the course of the 2 hour livestream.
Lineup Lineup
The lineup for both Xbox and Bandai Namco has been revealed. We can expect to see more of the mech festArmored Core VIin the run-up to its launch. Plus the space set RPGStarfieldwhich releases next month. Of course there are plenty of games to look forward to in the coming months.
Gamescom 2023 sets to be a big affair with a record number of exhibitors according to a recent article by Gamesindustry. 1,220 exhibitors in fact will be at the event in Koelnmesse next week.
