Traveling across the vast world ofClair Obscur: Expedition 33, you will find areas that are puzzles, areas that just contain a single musical record, or areas that contain a big boss. For The Crows, it’s a bit of the first and third, having a puzzle upon entering, with a boss that comes out as soon as you figure it out. The Crow is accessible much earlier than you should probably attempt it, but at the same time, you need to figure out the patterns for the boss due to it being heavily reliant on damage coming from counterattacks.

How to Access Flying in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Getting around the world can be hard in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but when you obtain flying, you can go anywhere.

The Puzzle

The Crows looks like just a small beach area with nothing going on, but as you might suspect, there’s more that meets the eye. As the name suggests, this beach area is filled with crows, but what are you supposed to do? Well, it’s easy. All you need to do is use your projectile weapon, something you probably rarely use outside of combat, and shoot every glowing crow you can find.

There are a total of 25 crows that you need to shoot off the various platforms. Thankfully, each is content with sitting while they watch their friends get blown into bits. Unfortunately, one Nevron isn’t having it and comes down to face you.

Chromatic Chapelier

Once you’ve slain all 25 crows, the Chromatic Chapelier will descend from the skies to fight you. The first thing he will do is launch his masks. These will need to be shot down, otherwise they will fly at you with the “…?” prompt. If you fail to parry or guard them, they will silence anything they hit.

Because the Chapelier is a flying enemy, anything outside of the Aim function will have a high chance of missing, so best utilize buffs, burn and projectile attacks.

One of his attacks will hit three times. These are incredibly slow hits, so don’t get baited and wait until you head the audio cue to parry or dodge. If you’re hit with this attack, you’ll not only take void damage, but you will becomeInverted, meaning you can’t be healed.

The other attack the Chapelier does is that he “slashes with its axe.” This attack is probably the hardest to time at first, but once you’ve gotten the pace down, it becomes very easy. This is a party-wide attack, but the final hit is a Jump Attack, meaning if you’re hoping for a final follow-up parry, you will be disappointed. Similar to the other attack, you’ll want to avoid these as much as possible. These hits will not only do void damage, but also addExhaust, which will really restrict your AP usage. The speed pattern of each swing isnormal > normal > normal > fast > normal jump attack.

That’s basically it for this boss. He can be a handful because of all the debuffs, but you only need to learn two attacks and shoot down his hats whenever they pop up. Most of your damage will come from your projectiles and counterattacks.
