Apple on released iOS 16.1.2 for the general public on Wednesday with small enhancements for iPhone users that should improve the user experience.

As an incremental update, iOS 16.1.2 doesn’t come with any substantial changes, but rather bug fixes and improvements. In the official change log, Apple says the update introduces the following changes:

iOS 16.1.2 Update Released.

The update is clearly recommended for all iPhone users, especially those using the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, or iPhone 14 Pro Max due to theCrash Detectionoptimizations.

Even if you aren’t using one of the aforementioned handsets, this update is still recommended.

While Apple doesn’t go into significant detail about the carrier compatibility in this update, it’s safe to assume that Apple is adding support for new wireless carriers around the world and optimizing existing ones, likely with respect to boosting the5Gperformance to battery ratio.

How to get it

If you’re wanting to install iOS 16.1.2, then you’re able to find it under theSettings → General → Software Updatesection where the over the air (OTA) updating mechanism resides.

Installing this update requires aWi-Fior 5G connection, and your iPhone will restart after installing it.

Jailbreakers beware

If you’re waiting for ajailbreak, remember that it’s best tostay on the lowest possible firmwareand avoid software updates to enhance your odds of being on a supported version if and when a new tool releases.

Apple’s recent updates have really beefed up iOS security, so this advice is more important now that ever. There is no jailbreak currently for any version of iOS or iPadOS 16.
