Surprise, surprise! It looks like, completely out of nowhere, Netflix has already started production onMarvel’s Luke Cageseason 2. There is no official word from Marvel or Netflix yet, but some new photos have surfaced online that seem to suggest that the second season ofLuke Cageis getting set to shoot in New York, if they aren’t filming already.
Some photos showed up onTwitterfrom various folks who spotted signs in New York for a production going by the name of “Tiara.” During production, TV shows and movies have what is known as a working title. SinceLuke Cageseason 1 filmed under the working title of Tiara, it seems more than likely that these production signs point toLuke Cageseason 2 already being underway. So it looks like we won’t be waiting all that long forMike Colterto make his return to Netflix’s littler corner of the Marvel Universe.
Luke Cage, as with the other Marvel Netflix shows so far, was a huge hit for the streaming service and won over both critics and fans.Luke Cageseason 1 currently holds a very impressive 96 percent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 79 percent audience rating to go along with the critical acclaim. Netflix doesn’t release streaming figures, but the show did well enough for them to officially renewLuke Cagefor season 2 back in December. No official plot details have been revealed for the second season yet, but there is some hope from fans that they will be bringing in Danny Rand, akaIron Fist, so that they can do someHeroes for Hireaction. For those who may not know, that was the name of the Marvel Comics series that sawLuke CageandIron Fistteaming up to do odd jobs for money.
Spoilers for those who have not finishedLuke Cage season 1, but the end of the first season saw the titular character heading to jail. So that is something that is going to need to be dealt with between now and the start ofLuke Cage season 2. However, withThe Defendersset to debut on Netflix on August 18, we can be certain that his fellow Hell’s Kitchen hero buddies will be taking care of that long before new episodes ofLuke Cagearrive. It could definitely be a ton of fun to seeDaredeviland the gang breaking their fellow Defender from prison.
Marvel and Netflix have also renewedJessica Jonesfor a second season, which is currently filming as well. Additionally,Daredevilhas been renewed for a third season, whichCharlie Coxconfirmed will be shooting later this year.Iron Fisthas not yet been renewed for a second season, but it is a safe bet that will be happening as well, despite the fact that critics didn’t respond to that series very well. That said, fans really seemed to enjoy it. WithLuke Cageseason 2 also filming this year, it looks like we could see three new seasons of Marvel shows arrive on Netflix in 2018.
