Written and directed by Osgood Perkins,The Monkeyrecently hit theaters, and the comedy-horror film is certified fresh according to Rotten Tomatoes. With its Tomatometer currently at 79% and its Popcornmeter a bit lower at 60%, the movie has clearly been well received. Based onthe Stephen King short storyof the same name, the film follows twin brothers, Bill and Hal (Theo James), and the murderous monkey toy they find as children that belonged to their father. What followed their seemingly benign discovery was a series of outrageous and gruesome deaths that ultimately destroyed their family.

After throwing away the toy, the brothers moved on with their lives and eventually grew apart. However, when the monkey resurfaces and begins a new killing spree 25 years later, the estranged brothers are forced to face the cursed toy once again. Rife with plenty ofbloody, and often humorous, death scenes,The Monkeyserves as Perkins’ directorial follow-up to last year’s immensely successful film,Longlegs. Received rather similarly by critics and audiences,The Monkeyhas yet to achieve the same box office success asLonglegs. That being said, it doesn’t mean the movie is a failure by any means. While it’s unlikely to be the highest-grossing horror movie of 2025,The Monkeyis certainly on track to be a box office success nonetheless.
