Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is set to make her return in the upcoming sequel,The Marvels(2023), as she teams up with new allies to unravel a mystery within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Marvelsstars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, alongside Teyonah Parris reprising her role as Monica Rambeau from her debut in WandaVision, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel.
The first season ofMs. Marvelhas left fans with much to ponder, taking Kamala Khan’s story into uncharted territory. One particular highlight has been the unique portrayal of Kamala’s powers, especially in the climactic battle scene, which took creative liberties.
While Kamala’s powers didn’t mirror the comics directly, the show used cosmic constructs to represent her stretching abilities, inspired by a distinct source.
Ms. Marvel directors/producers Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi have confirmed that Kamala Khan’s fighting style drew inspiration from Dragon Ball Z.

Dragon Ball Zis Inspiration for Ms. Marvel’s Fighting Style
In an interview, following theMs. Marvelfinale, directors and executive producers Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi revealed that some of Kamala’s fighting style was inspired byDragon Ball Z.
With our visual effects artist Nordin Rahhali, we were exploring what we could do with this power and having that ‘Embiggen’ moment, That was that image that’s that really manga, almost like Dragon Ball Z influence. All these cool things that, yeah, that we explored. And I just think that when we were doing it, we felt there is so much more we can do. And I think we just hit the tip of the iceberg.
Fallah explained that the power and impact of the scene really resembled something from a manga, particularly likeDragon Ball Z. It was a heartwarming feeling when they were filming that scene. Somewhere in the interview, he also explained why it is important to make the final episode a climax.

The Climax is the Best Fighting Scene in the Series
In the interview, the director and producer also explained the impact of the climax in the series saying:It was important that the last episode is a climax.Fallah further said:
It has to go ‘boom, boom, boom,’ to a climax that hits you in the heart at the end. That was really our intention, to make it fast paced, but at the same time, really have those emotional moments.
He continued:
So, finding that balance was tricky, but I think we managed to get it there and still have the big action, still have those emotional moments with the mother and with the father. Which were, for me, very special scenes that really touch you emotionally. And then you have her the bigger moment that she’s really being Ms. Marvel. That contrast — it was tricky to find it, but I think we managed to.
Fallah and El Arbi also discussed how the finale was influenced by the work of Edgar Wright, as they had mentioned in a recent social media post about meeting him.
During the conversation, Bilall and Adil also talked about how they managed to strike the right balance between action and emotion. “We also wanted to put the animation in it, because in the pilot, that was something that was very, very important to us,” they added.
