Did something inexplicably followKate Maraback to Earth from the cold unknowns of outer space? Well, something ominous seems to be lurking, at the very least, in the first image released from the upcoming sci-fi thriller,The Astronaut. Mara’s character, Lt. Sam Walker, seems to be hiding from someone or something in the picture as she stares pensively toward the camera. Check out the first-look photo fromThe Astronautbelow:
Mara (House of Cards, Moonbeam City, Class of ’09) certainly isn’t a stranger to the dangers of outer space, as she starred in bothThe Martianand theFantastic Four(2015). But inThe Astronaut, even though she longs to reunite with her husband, Mark (Gabriel Luna), Sam Walker is haunted by the fear that something has landed on Earth with her.
In addition to Mara and Luna, the veteran alum who appeared in such film franchises asThe Matrix,the DCEU andJohn Wick, Laurence Fishburne, also stars inThe Astronaut. Fishburne portrays General William Harris, and he is in charge of a NASA facility. This is where Sam is being housed after she is miraculously found alive in the Atlantic Ocean after coming back to Earth.

Writer and director Jess Varley (Camping Safe, Phobias) was tasked with helming thesci-fithriller,The Astronaut. Varley’s most prolific work remains in front of the camera as an actress on the television seriesKat. She’s also appeared on bothLaw & OrderandLaw & Order: Special Victims Unit. Expecting to be reunited with her husband (Luna), she finds herself placed under intense NASA surveillance in a high security house for rehabilitation and medical testing under the control of General William Harris (Fishburne). However, when disturbing occurrences begin happening around the property, she fears that something extraterrestrial has followed her back to Earth.”
