The League of Legends MMOhas received a new development update, thanks to Riot Games’ co-founder and product director, Marc Merrill, who has spoken about the project, which aims to deliver a World of Warcraft-like experience.

League of Legendshas grown immensely since its launch, and for years, Riot Games has been working on expanding the Runeterra universe beyond the popular MOBA.

The Arcane series is the best proof that the lore behind League of Legends has great potential, and the next major project set to expand on this is the MMO, which has been in development for several years and has faced some concerning news along the way.

In an interview with Game File, Merrill stated that thisMMOis an extremely important game. “It’s probably the project I personally dedicate the most time to as well,” said the co-founder.

However, its development has not been easy. Merrill acknowledged that creating anMMOis a very difficult process. Even so, the company remains confident in delivering a successful game.

“Riot is exactly the kind of company that should pursue these kinds of opportunities if we’re trying to improve things for the player. People want to explore the world of Runeterra,” he explained.

Why Could This MMO Be as Successful as Arcane?

“Many people who have historically loved MMOs look back with nostalgia and wish they could rediscover that experience. I think that’s a very valuable experience worth pursuing. And it’s really hard to achieve,” Merrill added.

However, doubts still loom over this game. Less than a year ago,Riot Gamesupdated fans on the MMO’s development status, confirming a reboot and other disappointing news.

Fortunately,League of Legends and Arcanefans will still have a new game to enjoy. 2XKO, Runeterra’s fighting game, is set for release in 2025 after undergoing several test phases.
