MrBeast fires back at “false” claims wells he built in Africa were abandoned

In 2023, Donaldson uploaded a video showing himself and his team building100 wells in Africa. And in August 2025, he banded together with 3,000 high-profile content creators and social media platforms to create TeamWater, where he raised money to provide2M people with clean wateracross countries like Malawi, Ecuador, Nepal, and even the United States.
Despite his good works, MrBeast is often the subject of criticism regarding these endeavors, with many accusing him of using underprivileged people to gain online ‘clout.’ Recently, detractors have claimed that the wells Donaldson built in Africa are no longer operational — something that caught the YouTuber’s attention.

He bit back at these accusations in a pointed tweet on July 12, 2025, where he revealed that he’d created awebpagespecifically to keep track of the status of the wells he’s built. The page includes the dates of their last check-up, complete with video proof of the wells being used to pump water.

That’s not all; when asked which specific people had made these accusations about the wells, MrBeast attached screenshots of three separate posts that had garnered tens of millions of views.
One of these posters responded to MrBeast’s screenshots, where they maintained that their claims were never an “attack” on the YouTuber — even donating $5K to Team Water.
“My tweet to you was never an attack, and I don’t generate ad revenue from any of my social media accounts,” they said. “I just wanted to see proof that the old wells still work. Thank you for providing the videos! I put my money where my mouth is and donated $5,000. I’m happy to help!”

This is far from the first time MrBeast has hit back at criticism toward his charitable videos. In 2023, the YouTuber paid for1,000 people’s cataract surgeries, earning him equal parts praise and accusations of ‘exploiting’ those in need for views.
“Twitter – Rich people should help others with their money,” hewrote in response. “Me – Okay, I’ll use my money to help people and I promise to give away all my money before I die. Every single penny. Twitter – MrBeast bad.”
MrBeast has been defended by those he’s helped in the past, with one of the folks whose surgeries he paid for saying: “His video didn’t make fun of anyone and hedidn’t exploit me. He was nice enough to pay for my surgery, and the way he helped all of us has actually inspired me to do more to help others in need, like people who are homeless and who ask me for help.”
