There are many things that happen which could be timed better, but the arrival ofNetflix’s trailer for the upcoming documentaryThe Deepest Breathseems to be one that is in bad taste considering the recent tragedy around the missing Titan submarine. That is certainly how many people on social media have seen the arrival of the trailer for the A24-produced documentary about freediver Alessia Zecchini, the current holder of the freediving world record. The trailer was released on Tuesday by Netflix ahead of the documentary’s release on July 19. Given that thesearch for the Titan submarine, which was lost below the sea while on an expedition to view the wreck of the Titanic, was well underway at that point, many didn’t believe the timing was great and the trailer release should have been postponed. Considering the trailer features many underwater scenes, the sound of deep labored breathing and Zecchini floating lifeless in the water, it is a questionable move by Netflix considering the release of the documentary is still a month away.As Netflix shared the trailer on their Twitter account, the comments section quickly filled up with followers calling out the timing of the release and noting that it was probably not something that people involved in the Titan submarine tragedy would be wanting to see.“Wow, epic timing! Who decided for this to go up?” One person said.Another added, “I don’t think you really thought this one through.”A third even suggested that the release had been done to gain attention from the missing sub, saying, “Someone came into work with a “bold idea” and pushed this release up the schedule didn’t they?”[EMBED_TWITTER]https://twitter.com/netflixuk/status/1671201246961709056?s=61&t=NcFeAAN12pQKfD-_0ZWd-g[/EMBED_TWITTER]There were some people who were quick to point out that the similarities between freediving in relatively shallow waters and taking a submarine 2.5 miles below the surface are two very different things, but from a sensitivity point of view, it is clear that Netflix maybe could have thought twice before promoting the documentary at that time.Related:Celine Dion’s Titanic Song Gets Huge Streaming Bump After Titan Sub Tragedy

James Cameron Recently Criticized the Titan Expedition

As someone who has quite a bit of knowledge about the Titanic, having heavily researched the ship for his 1997 movie and having himself visited the wreck of the famous liner,James Cameronis something who is more entitled than most to share an opinion the events that unfolded over the last week. Speaking about the incident, Cameron said:

“People in the community were very concerned about this sub,” Cameron explains. “A number of the top players in the deep submergence engineering community even wrote letters to the company, saying that what they were doing was too experimental to carry passengers and that it needed to be certified."

He continued, “I’m struck by the similarity of the Titanic disaster itself, where the captain was repeatedly warned about ice ahead of his ship, and yet he steamed at full speed into an ice field on a moonless night and many people died as a result. For us, it’s a very similar tragedy where warnings went unheeded. To take place at the same exact site with all the diving that’s going on all around the world, I think it’s just astonishing. It’s really quite surreal.”

The tragedy of the Titan has become one of the biggest news stories of the past week, and its devastating conclusion is one that has seen people around the world offering their condolences to those lost.
