A new trailer for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince draws near. This newest trailer emphasizes the monsters that Psaro will be wrangling and synthesizing in the upcoming monster catching game. The showcased monsters include some rather strange and food themed creatures, but anyone who has been following Dragon Quest is aware the numerous dreadful puns that are used in coming up with names for the bestiary. Some of these include the Goonache Goodie which appears to be a chocolate slime, Vegan Dragora, Croc-a-Bugle-Doo, King Jester Slime and the Sugar Baddie. These new and strange creatures will also be joined several of the more iconic Dragon Quest monsters that occupy the majority of the games such as the Great Sabrecub, Dracky, Funghoul and of course Slimes.
Catching Monsters is an important part in becoming the Master of Monsterkind but catching stronger monsters is only part of the equation. As is tradition in Dragon Quest Monsters games synthesizing monsters is an essential part of getting the best and most powerful creatures to help Psaro reach his goals. The trailer posted below shows one example of synthesis, which is combining a Slime with a Succubat in order to create the devilish Dark Slime. The available demo only scratched the surface of what is possible in this game but from what we were able to gather it seems like there is going to be an immense about of options and room for experimentation in playing god in creating new monster life forms. While we haven’t had access to the complete game yet playing with monster synthesis is likely going to be a major component of trying to create the ultimate team of monster minions.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is scheduled for release on December 1 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. The protagonist is none other than Psaro, the antagonist of Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen. Many details of the story remain unknown but based on some of the announced characters and locations it looks like it will serve as a prequel to Dragon Quest IV and perhaps offer a different perspective of some of the events mentioned in the 1990 game. A few months ago we played the demo and it left a favorable impression with us. As we’re eagerly awaiting the release of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince and in depth look at our impressions can be found in ourpreview.
