Amazon Game Studios has released new details about the upcoming MMORPG New World that shares more about gameplay and combat system.

New World Gets More Gameplay and Combat System Details

In a feature in Xbox Magazine, senior developers working on New World reveal more about the gameplay and the plans for the future of the game. New World will be using Amazon Web Servers which promises a smooth gaming experience for theMMORPG, using Amazon’s cloud servers. Due to this tech, according to game director Scot Lane, this will allow them to “to push things in ways they haven’t been pushed before.”

Weapon Class System

New World also approaches their class based system in a different way to most MMOs. Instead of building characters with a particular class based on skills, players will pick their class usingWeaponsinstead, allowing to adopt the playstyle you want based on gear. The more you use a particular type of weapon, the more proficiency you will gain. Each have their own particular weapon tree with abilities and bonuses.

The range of weapons are not to disappoint, expect gunpowder guns to sword and board. There are even hatchets which can be used as a typical melee weapon or used in ranged combat by throwing them at your opponent. Magic is also an option in game but it is not dedicated to a particular weapon, this decision was made in order to make it “more substantial than ethereal.”

Combat System

What’s also great to know is Amazon’s plan for the future of the game, according to head of play experience David Verfaillie, they plan to support the game and improve the combat system over the next ten years after launch.

Scot Lane also explains that the real time combat in New World is very skilled based, if you’ve had experience with games such asDark Souls, you’ll feel at home with taking on higher levelled enemies in New World. It’s described as “more of anAction-RPGthan a traditional MMO”, how  you position yourself in fights, when you lunge or dodge will all be very important in the game.

PVP System

New World will focus on an “opt-in” PVP system, meaning you will have to activate a flag to participate in PVP. This sounds similar to the currentWorld of Warcraftsystem where you need to turn on War Mode in order to engage in PVP out in the open-world. The developer explains that it’s skill based, so even if you’re lower levelled than another player, it will really be down to your mastery of combat rather than your level.

There are also Territory Wars that players can join without opting in for PVP flagged open-world, which sounds similar to the campaign system in theElder Scrolls Online. This mode means players can join battles up to 50 vs 50, and take on territory battles against other factions.
