Adding to Razer’s Immersive line of keyboards, the BlackWidow V4 has gotten the low-profile treatment. Coming in at the height of under a penny (the literal coin) with properly centered weight and a confidence in durability, theBlackWidow V4 Low Profile HyperSpeedis a keyboard that embodies the future for Razer. With modern amenities and a focus on both work and play, this keyboard adds portability on top of its options. The keyboard is only available in black, but does come in a full-size and tenkeyless design with separate button layouts being the main difference, as everything underneath is the same. This review focuses on the tenkeyless version that Razer sent over.

The Keyboard Designed for 2025

TheRazerBlackWidow V4 Low Profile HyperSpeed has amenities that only could speak for modern times. The keyboard includes the Microsoft Copilot key on the keyboard layout. This isn’t a separate media button, though, as there’s a separate AI media button that’s labeled AI. This brings up AI Prompt master where you can select between ChatGPT or Copilot to do things for you.The latest Razer Synapse 4 software will be required to take advantage of everything these keyboards have to offer.Razer states you can generate recommended build guides on-the-fly as well as summarize text and generate emails. This can be done in the middle of a game as well.

The keyboard also offers a small media roller, a dedicated media button and a neat battery indicator that lights up the number keys as a meter to check the battery level. TheV4 Low Profileis available in both HyperSpeed wireless and Bluetooth along with the option to leave hardwired. The tenkeyless version leaves a lot of empty space across the top of the keyboard, though, whereas the full-size version of the keyboard features buttons in this area. This was a design decision for what the tenkeyless does, which is more minimal. There are no physical macro keys on this version. These buttons are soft to the touch and can be customized to do different actions in the Razer Synapse 4 software.

Polling rate, whether it be wired or wireless is 1000Hz, which will provide an advantage in gaming for those that have a lesser polling rate. There are four customizable speeds as a higher polling rate will drain the battery more if using wireless. Running this in a wired configuration, the polling rate should remain at 1000 Hz. Snap Tap is available for the V4 Low Profile as well. This means that the selected keys won’t register at the same time and instead overwrite the previous input. This is huge for side-to-side movement in competitive games. Razer Synapse 4 also offers a keyswitch optimization option between typing and gaming that will adjust the de bounce delay for swift keypresses and releases.

Summary of Key Features

Pressing the battery button three times on the keyboard will active Power Saving Mode. Lighting will disable and only Bluetooth will be available. The polling rate also caps at 250Hz. This isn’t recommended for gaming, but if you’re constantly mobile and need to take the keyboard with you without losing sync,Razerstates that this will last for 980 hours. That’s forty days, more than one month, before having to worry about a charge. What’s great about this keyboard is how thin it is at 0.73" and how durable it feels. The weight feels centered directly in the middle of the keyboard, but it’s not heavy at all. There’s a cloth protection that comes with the tenkeyless version for protection.

There’s functionality on the keyboard that provides corresponding lighting to setting up certain settings. There are also secondary function lighting when using the Function key on the keyboard. The HyperSpeed Razer refers to allows for multiple Razer devices to utilize one dongle, so if you’re bringing a mouse with you that’s compatible, you’ll only need one dongle. There’s a small switch on the top of the keyboard to go back and forth between wired and wireless, but you can setup both the bluetooth and the wireless with color-coded keys on the keyboard itself. These onboard cues are neat that add to a modern design.

The Pieces that Make up the Unit

Three Razer Low Profile Mechanical Switches are available to choose from: Green Clicky, Orange Tactile and Yellow Linear. The review unit came with the Orange Tactile switches that are housed under Doubleshot PBT Keycaps. Lubricated stabilizers are included along with plate foam and a top-mounted stainless steel plate. All of this ensures rigidity on each key stroke and debounce is extremely fast. There seems to be the slighted free play on initial touch, but this allows for acceptance of the finger at different angles and immediately streamlines the stoke. Much like its design, its execution is minimalist. Playing hours ofBattlefield 6on this keyboard was effortless. The thin design, despite being angled with the back feet, was good to use with extended fingers. There’s no wrist rest included, but that wouldn’t be a benefit with this design. The keys are smooth to the touch with just a hint of grip. The top casing surrounding the keys is 5052 aluminum alloy, so it comes off real shiny in black. This looks like futuristic Razer, especially when the RGB is set to green.

As for the RGB, it’s mellow at most, even with the brightness maxxed out. Immersive is perhaps the description that drives the BlackWidow keyboards, but the lighting simply illuminates through the crevices and the key font. It won’t light up the room, but it creates a calm feel. The media buttons seem to actually be brighter through their font, but the overall feel almost comes off as like a night light. This is per key Chroma RGB that can be customized and synced with the Razer Synapse software. Lighting profiles exist for over 300 games. Function keys will light up separately, but there are some keys that have secondary writing that isn’t translucent, and these are the dedicated macro keys on the tenkeyless. All should be translucent on the keyboards at this point in 2025.

The sound of the Orange Tactile is audible and the actuation point is snappy. If aiming for the more quieter side, it’s worth noting the audible is surprisingly louder than expected. The Yellow would be the option if aiming for the quieter end of the spectrum. While there are certain specifications to maximize battery life, using this in a traditional sense of being on the go with HyperSpeed wireless and the dongle on a laptop, a full charge utilizing RGB on a real-world basis goes for about 2-3 days. It will save space in a desktop setup, which would be one of the reasons to get a tenkeyless.

Closing Comments:

If you’re looking for a gaming keyboard that does work-like things well and offers portability, then the BlackWidow V4 Low Profile will do the job. Gaming on this feels precise with added controls coming from the Razer Synapse 4 software. If you’re future-proofing and use AI frequently, these integrations directly into the physical keyboard will be a much-needed bonus. The weight and texture of the BlackWidow V4 Low Profile provides a premium feel, which brings a premium asking price thatRazeroffers. The tenkeyless retails for $199.99 and the full-size for $229.99. Unless you need those number keys or want those other media keys across the top, the tenkeyless is the sweet spot. If you have a laptop, especially one of theRazer Blade’s, this keyboard matches that laptop perfectly and is just about as thin. The added options on this line, especially with the AI integration, helps sway the anxiety of the pricing.
