According to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s recent financial report, they won’t be dropping any new major entries for “existing franchise titles” before March 31st 2025.
Sony Won’t Be Releasing Any “New Major Existing” IP Games Before March 2025
If you were curious about the timeline for the next major new entry for a current franchise of Sony Interactive Entertainment we might have gotten a significant timeline. In the recent 2023 Q3 earnings briefing from SIE, the Sony Group president, COO and CFO Hiroki Totoki revealed there are “major projects currently under development”. But we won’t be getting to play them until at least after the next fiscal year, ending of March 31st 2025.
The statement mentioned “existing” so that doesn’t mean we won’t be in for some new franchise releases in the meantime. However, this does mean any existing series such as God of War or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won’t be heading our way anytime soon.
Regarding first-party software, we aim to continue to focus on producing high-quality works and developing live service games," Totoki said. “But while major projects are currently under development, we do not plan to release any new major existing franchise titles next fiscal year like God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

As for hardware Totoki touched upon the current trajectory of the PS5. Now in its fifth year since launch, it’s expected to have a decline in sales “from next fiscal year onwards”. PS5’s launch was a major one for Sony, having struggled to keep up with the demand for the console during the pandemic and production. That seems to have evened out now, but they do expect third-party software sales and network services to continue to “expand gradually”.

Playstation 5 exclusives such as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be a key player for the platform as it is a highly anticipated continuation of theFinal Fantasy 7 Remake.Rise of the Roninis launching in March, which will surely drive sales for fans of the Team Ninja studio which developedNioh 2andWo Long Fallen Dynasty. Then there is the dubbed the “KoreanNieR” by some,Stellar Bladewhich has stunning graphic visuals and visceral combat is coming in April.
Beyond that, we have the scary Silent Hill 2 remake sometime this year. While the even weirder sequel Death Stranding 2 will be storming the beaches once more sometime in 2025.
