Yesterday, we got to hear a bit Trek 3as co-writer and star of the sequelSimon Peggbegins to make his press rounds forMission: Impossible Rogue Nation, which hits theaters this summer. We now know thatIdris Elba, rumored to be the villain, is playing a character never before seen in the franchise. Today, we get word of the official title, which also points to the fact that thisJ.J. Abrams-less sequel is moving away from the ideas and themes set up in the first two reboots, which altered the original 1966 series' timeline. If we’re to believe this latest rumor, the official title ofStar Trek 3isStar Trek Beyond.

TrekMovie.comnotes that Paramount Pictures has recently registered the title ofStar Trek Beyondwith the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). They believe that this indicates the movie will involve deep space exploration, which has been hinted at for some time. The movie is said to pick up a few years afterStar Trek Into Darkness, with the Enterprise well into their 5 year mission to explore strange new worlds.Simon Pegg, who is still feverishly working on the screenplay, had this to say in an early interview:

“It’s a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it. Where no man has gone before - where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation. But yeah, that’s the mood at the moment.”

Star Trek Beyondis set to returnChris Pineto the captain’s chair as James T.
