Arguably one of video game’s most iconic series, Tetris, celebrates its 40th anniversary since its original creation and to commemorate the occasion, Digital Eclipse have announced that the much-beloved, falling blocks puzzle game is to get their “Golden Master” treatment, in the form of Tetris Forever. Gathering together iterations and twists on the classic formula over the years, Tetris Forever packages together a compilation of more than 15 iterations. Including of course a recreation of the original version of Tetris, as it was on the Electronika 60 computer.
It’s the latest in the studio’s ongoing Golden Master series of “interactive documentaries”, which so far includes last year’s The Making of Karateka and Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story, which released this March. All of whom have Atari 50 to thank for kicking off this recent series of revisiting video games' past greats – hailed as a phenomenal retrospect on the history of Atari. And like its fellow Golden Master brethren, Tetris Forever doesn’t stop at simply being a compilation of past games.

Forever and Ever
Going one, maybe even a few steps further, Tetris Forever also comes with more than 90 minutes of documentary featurettes. Including a look into the history of the game’s creation, as well as interviews with Tetris' creator Alexey Pajitnov and The Tetris Company’s founder – and long-time friend to Alexey – Henk Rogers.
As far as original content is concerned, Digital Eclipse also have this base covered, with an all-new variant on Tetris dubbed Tetris Time Warp! Having up to four players shift between different eras of the series in real time to experience a variety of graphics, play-styles, and gameplay mechanics associated with each respective release represented.
