If this is your first foray into Destiny 2, or even if you’re just returning from a break, the sheer amount of content is overwhelming. Trying to work out what order to play the many Destiny 2 missions and expansions takes some serious insider knowledge. That’s why I’m here.
Bungie has actually removed a number of the first expansions fromDestiny 2. This means players can no longer access them. The only way to catch up with the story up until this point is through the Timeline option on the top right. I’ll mark which ones are available.

Vaulted Destiny 2 expansions
These have sadly been removed from the lineup.
The Red War
This was the original start of the game before it was removed. Here is where it all began as we fought against Cabal General Dominus Ghaul as he tried to take over the Traveller.
Curse of Osiris
This campaign was incredibly short, taking part in the tiny location of Mercury. I finished it in about an hour and a half. The Destiny 2 expansion introduced us to Osiris, the Warlock. The short list of missions had Guardians rescuing Osiris from the Vex.
This Destiny 2 expansion was set on a new area of Mars. Despite its short playtime, it introduced the new Hive and Rasputin, the AI Warmind.

In this large and momentous expansion, we lost the much-loved Cayde-6. The missions in Destiny 2 take us through both the Tangled Shore and The Dreaming City as we fight off The Scorn.
Available Destiny 2 expansions and mission
If you’re looking to start playing Destiny 2, these are the expansions you still have available.
Shadowkeep
This is the first Destiny 2 expansionyou can still play. It takes place once again on the moon. This time, however, you will be fighting against the Nightmares, an enemy resurrected by the Darkness.
Beyond Light
This expansion introduces a whole new ability: Stasis. The Beyond Light expansion for Destiny 2 faced us off against Fallen Kell Eramis as they tried to harness the power of the Darkness to take down The Traveller.
This expansion was also available for free in a stripped-back version known as New Light. This helped new and returning players get back into the game and introduced thenew Stasis ability.

The Witch Queen
The Witch Queen expansion for Destiny 2 was a real step up in quality for the game. The missions took the story to Savathun to fightThe Witch Queenin a wonderfully atmospheric world.
Lightfall takes place as the penultimate expansion for the Light and Dark storyline in Destiny 2. The quests take us through a whole journey of learning about The Witness and the Veil while fighting against Xivu Arath.

The campaign takes place in Neomuna, Neptune’s neon-soaked location. Anew subclass, Strand, is introduced as a weapon against Caluses’ army.
